Ways to celebrate Canada Day in Waterloo region, Guelph on Monday

Canada Day is on Monday and there are several events happening in Waterloo region and area to mark it.

Cambridge Canada Day

11 a.m. to late

Riverside Park, 49 King St. W., Cambridge

This event kicks off with a parade at 11 a.m. that starts at King and Bishop streets and finishes on King and Eagle streets.

There's also a fishing derby, food trucks, children's area, a beer garden, Portraits of Honour will be on display and live entertainment. Performers include: Loose Cannon, Up To Here, Blue Nova, Monkey Wrench, Always On Friday and 5 Against One.

Fireworks are expected after dusk.

Canada Day in DTK

2 p.m. to 11 p.m.

In front of Kitchener's city hall

Food trucks will be on site for this family friendly event.

There will be live performances throughout the afternoon and evening including Syney Jones, Living Room for Small, The Redhill Valleys, Danny Michel with Romeo Sex Fighter and ending with April Wine.

Fireworks are set to take place just after 10 p.m.

Waterloo community picnic

4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Waterloo Park

Local artists, food trucks and giant games will be part of this picnic atmosphere in the park near the bandshell.

There's an art market, community organization fair and entertainment. Performers include: The Trainwrecks, Conexion Latina, Momma's Kitchen, and Nicolette and The Nobodies.

An LED drone show is set to begin at 10 p.m.

North Dumfries Community Celebration

6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

North Dumfries Community Complex, 2958 Greenfield Road, Ayr

This event will include lawn games, obstacle course, electronic hockey, selfie station, children's entertainer Rumple & Friends and a concert by The Boys & I.

There will be food trucks on site for snacks or dinner. Fireworks will take place at dusk.

Wilmot Canada Day

7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

William Scott Park, 75 Hunter St., New Hamburg

The day begins with a sunrise ceremony led by an elder from Crow Shield Lodge. The official opening will be at 11 a.m. and will include cake.

Performers include: Erick Traplin, David Martin, Dolinar, Dosman and Dunn, Randy Satchell Band, Smile N' Wave and Counting Down the Hours.

Fireworks are expected to take place around 9:30 p.m.

Woolwich Celebrates Canada Day

10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Woolwich Memorial Centre, 24 Snyder Ave. S., Elmira

Free public swims will take place 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Then from noon until 3 p.m., there will be an antique car show, live entertainment, Robin In The Hood demonstrations, storytime, crafts, magic and juggling lessons and a magic show.

Teas 'n' Tales

10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.

Guelph Enabling Garden, Riverside Park

This special Canada Day edition of the storytelling event will include James Gordon, Robert Munsch, Larry Gibbs and Brian Holstein, with entertainment by the violinist Bridget Walsh.

The event is free but donations are welcome.

Canada Day Carillon Concert

12 p.m.

St. George's Anglican Church, Guelph

Carillonneur Deborah Hennig of Stratford, Ont., will be performing the 30-minute concert using the 36-bell concert instrument located inside the church.

The concert is free and open to the public. The bells can be heard best from the area immediately surrounding the church.

The concert will begin with the Newfoundland folk tune We'll Rant and We'll Roar followed by Both Sides Now by Joni Mitchell and then The Maple Leaf Forever.

Then Hennig will play Image No. 2, a concert piece for the carillon written by Émilien Allard, followed by Let Us Cheer the Weary Traveler. The program will conclude with Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah.

Guelph Royals host Brantford Red Sox

1 p.m. start

Hastings Stadium, Guelph

Enjoy some baseball as the Royals host the Red Sox in this afternoon game with the Royals players wearing red jerseys.

Tickets can be purchased ahead of time or at the gate.

Fireworks

Fireworks are permitted in some parts of Waterloo region and Guelph, but not all, and the rules are different depending on where you live:

• Cambridge — private fireworks displays are permitted between dusk and 11 p.m.

• Kitchener — private fireworks displays are permitted on private property only before 11 p.m.

• Waterloo — fireworks are permitted from dusk until 11 p.m. on Canada Day, as well as one day before and one day after.

• North Dumfries — fireworks are permitted between dusk and 10:15 p.m. on Canada Day, as well as one day before and one day after.

• Wellesley — fireworks are permitted on Canada Day or any of the three days during the weekend.

• Wilmot — it's recommended people watch professional displays, but they can be set off for personal reasons on Canada Day, as well as one day before and one day after.

• Woolwich — small sparklers, snap caps and party poppers are permitted. Other fireworks are prohibited unless used during a community event, for which a display permit is required.

• Guelph — fireworks are permitted on private property Canada Day as well as on June 30. They can be set off between 9 a.m. and 11:59 p.m.
