Toronto police say the death of a second man following a mass shooting in Etobicoke on the weekend will be investigated as a homicide.

Five men were shot late Sunday night in the parking lot of North Albion Collegiate Institute, a high school near the corner of Mount Olive Drive and Kipling Avenue.

All five were taken to hospital. Two have since died. Those who were injured suffered either life-altering or non-life-threatening injuries, police have said.

The first man who died has been identified by police as Delroy "George" Parkes, 61. He was pronounced dead on Sunday.

The second man who died has been identified by a family member as Seymour Gibbs, 46. The news of his death was released on Wednesday.

Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw gave reporters an update on the second death during a community walk on Thursday.

"It is actually going to be called a homicide based on the results we received today from the coroner," Demkiw said.

On Wednesday, police said an autopsy would have to be performed on the second man to determine cause of death.

According to police, the incident began when a group of men were gathered in the parking lot after a soccer game. Then a dark pickup truck pulled into the lot. Two people got out of the vehicle and shot at the men before taking off in the truck.

Police say they do not believe the suspects and victims knew each other.

As for the search for suspects, Demkiw told reporters that the search is continuing.

"It's a very, very active investigation and I'm not going to get into the details."
