The average residential property tax rate is going up 3.8 per cent this year in Montreal, up from last year’s average increase of 3.1 per cent.

The rate increases were included in Monday's municipal budget.

The rate increases vary widely by borough, and include hikes by both the central city and individual boroughs.

The property tax rates, combined with property evaluations, are used to determine the amount owners must pay in municipal property taxes.
