Deerfoot Trail in south Calgary was closed for several hours overnight into Sunday morning due to a fatal crash.
Responders were called to the scene for a two-vehicle collision in the northbound lanes of the freeway near exit 248, between Glenmore Trail and Blackfoot Trail S.E. shortly before 11 p.m., the Calgary Police Service said in a message sent to media.
The driver of a car involved in the collision died of their injuries at the scene, said Calgary police Staff Sgt. Mike Kelm, while a second driver of an SUV was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious life-threatening injuries. The crash survivor has since been released from medical care.
