There has been substantial grumbling on social media on the several occasions that the Calgary Flames have healthy-scratched rookie defenceman Zayne Parekh.
The organization wants to be clear that’s not the case with his latest absences.
The Flames announced Thursday that the 19-year-old Parekh is “day-to-day” with an upper-body injury that he sustained at the world junior hockey championship.
There is no timetable for his return.

Parekh has been limited to 11 appearances this season and missed a five-week stretch due to injury before he was loaned to the world juniors. After he racked up 13 points at the tournament, a new record for Canadian blue-liners, Flames fans have been itching to see if he can bring some of that momentum back to the big leagues, but they’ll have to wait at least a little longer.
Parekh didn’t dress for Wednesday’s 4-1 loss in Montreal and will be stuck spectating again Thursday in Boston.
In other Flames injury news, it’s encouraging that Martin Pospisil’s name was on the list as Slovakia announced its roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
That’s not necessarily a surprise, since Pospisil was among their initial picks in the summertime, but the 26-year-old forward has yet to suit up this season. He was hurt in exhibition action in the fall.

Although he did not accompany the team on this current five-game road trip, the Flames are hopeful he can return to practice soon.
Miroslav Satan, the president of Slovakia’s hockey federation, said via translation that they have been “monitoring his situation closely,” and believe Pospisil will “play a few games before he comes to the Olympics.”
