A 43-year-old Liverpool, N.S., man has been charged with impersonating a police officer and stealing a dump truck in separate incidents on Nova Scotia's South Shore.
According to an RCMP news release Thursday, a man dressed in civilian clothes arrived at the Cookville RCMP detachment outside Bridgewater, N.S., on the night of Dec. 26, told an officer outside that he was a sergeant who had been transferred from another province, and then tried to enter the building.
When the officer asked him for RCMP identification, the man said he didn’t have any. After the officer confirmed there had been no transfers from other detachments, nor was anyone other than on-shift officers expected at the detachment, the man was arrested.

He was charged with impersonating a police officer and breaching a recognizance order. He appeared in Bridgewater provincial court on Dec. 29 and was released on conditions.
A few days later, the man was charged with several other offences after Queens District RCMP responded on Jan. 1 to a report of a stolen truck. Officers found out that someone had entered a garage on Devonshire Road in West Caledonia and taken a dump truck.
While they were on their way to the property, they saw the vehicle on Highway 3 in Liverpool.
Officers stopped the truck and arrested the driver, who they believe entered the garage on Dec. 31 and stayed overnight before taking the vehicle.

The man, who appeared in Bridgewater court on Jan. 2 and again on Jan. 7, remains in custody and is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Feb. 4.
