Canadiens winger Cole Caufield and defenceman Lane Hutson won’t be playing in the Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy, next month.
When the U.S. team was announced on Friday morning, the two Habs didn’t appear on the Winter Games roster.
Caufield leads the Canadiens in goals with 20, while adding 20 assists in 40 games this season. The forward was also named the Molson Cup recipient for December. Hutson has six goals, 34 assists and a plus-12 differential.

Canadiens teammate Nick Suzuki was named to Team Canada’s Olympic roster on New Year’s Eve.
On Friday, Oliver Kapanen was selected to Team Finland.
Kapanen scored in Montreal’s 7-5 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. His 12 goals are tied for the league lead among rookies this season.
A Finnish star who won’t be joining Kapanen in Italy is teammate Patrik Laine. He remains out with a core muscle injury.
