SIU investigating man's fatal fall from balcony in North York

The province's police watchdog is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in North York Wednesday.

In a news release Thursday, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said Toronto Police Service officers were called to the area of Jane Street and Highway 401 for a domestic violence investigation at approximately 11:30 p.m.

Toronto police officers tried to locate and arrest the man in an apartment unit when he was found on the ground below, the SIU said in Thursday's release.

Toronto paramedics responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

The SIU investigates incidents involving police and civilians that have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.

The SIU is asking anyone with information, video or photos to contact them.
