We have a New Year’s resolution for politicians in Canada, from Prime Minister Mark Carney on down.

Stop pretending demonstrations by pro-Hamas thugs who trespass on private property, vandalize Jewish-owned businesses, “pray” on major streets to shut them down, toss smoke bombs and march into Jewish neighbourhoods for the sole purpose of intimidation are charter rights in Canada.

Stop mouthing platitudes about how antisemitism is wrong and start enforcing the laws we already have — we don’t need new ones — against spreading hatred, assault, vandalism, trespassing and public mischief.

By tolerating intolerance ever since Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, our governments have fuelled the worst outbreak of antisemitism in Canada since the 1930s.

Statistics Canada reports that over the last two years, 70% of all police-reported hate crimes based on religion were aimed at Jews, who make up just 0.9% of Canada’s population.

Because silence gives consent, Canadian governments have created the impression that hatred against Jews is justified because of the actions of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government and the Israeli military in Gaza.

We’ve all seen what will happen if our governments at all levels — federal, provincial and municipal — along with our police forces and courts keep allowing these crimes to go unpunished or give judicial slaps on the wrists to the perpetrators.

Bondi Beach massacre latest example

The most recent example occurred in Australia with the Bondi Beach massacre of Jews celebrating Hanukkah. This by two ISIS-inspired terrorists after growing Jew hatred was downplayed.

Indeed, in one sense, the pro-Hamas crowd should be delighted about what has been going on for the last two years.

Hamas, a designated terrorist group in Canada since 2002, certainly is.

That’s why it praised the actions of the Justin Trudeau/Mark Carney Liberal governments three times since the Hamas massacre.

The first, in December 2023, when Canada voted in favour of a biased, anti-Israel resolution calling for a ceasefire at the United Nations.

The second, in May, when Canada, the U.K. and France threatened “concrete actions” against Israel if it didn’t cease its military operations.

The third, in September, when Carney recognized the state of Palestine, which Hamas described as the “fruits” of its terrorist attack on Israel.

Canada needs a New Year’s resolution to fight Jew hated in 2026.
