It’s that time of year when people like to dress in their shiny best.

But if you plan to be in the air over the holidays, the Transportation Security Administration issued a warning against wearing sparkly Christmas sweaters and glittery outfits while travelling.

“TSA PSA: The body scanners don’t love sparkles,” the agency warned ahead of the busy travel season.

“We don’t want to dull your holiday shine but we don’t recommend wearing your sparkly holiday sweater to the airport.”

So think holiday sweaters and dresses with sequins, rhinestones or even metallic thread can trigger the finicky scanners and lead to delays or extra screenings from airport agents.

What constitutes ‘holiday shine?’

Some social media users asked for clarification with one person pointing out that sparkles and sequins “are two different things.”

The TSA cheekily responded that “both” are scanner offences.

Basically, if you have something that looks like it came off the Dancing With the Stars set, leave it in the closet or, at the very least, your suitcase.

Others chimed in with their own experiences after failing to heed or even know about the scanners’ fussiness with their festive fashion.

“I accidentally wore a shirt that had a metal studs around the neckline,” one person wrote. “I got the extra special pat down.”

A second person commented: “I learned this lesson years ago when the pockets on my jeans had embellishments and I had micro bead extensions in.”

A third added: “Did this with a metallic scarf once. Never again. I think the scanner lit up like a Christmas tree based on the pat down I got.”

Others noted that “anything with sparkle” sets off the scanners, while one user likened it to an MRI machine.

One person asked reasonably: “Who the hell is wearing sequins to the airport?!”

That prompted another, presumably their polar opposite, to ask, “So I should not dress up for the airport?“

Then there were those who love celebrating all things Christmas calling the scanners “scrooges” and “grinches.”

They added: “Sequins are appropriate for this time of year, tell your scanners to get with the program as we spread Yuletide cheer!”
