Montreal police are investigating two Sunday morning arson incidents in the Rivière-des-Prairies district that destroyed a total of seven vehicles.

At 2:15 a.m., a 911 call was made about a burning cube truck at Gaston Maillet Ave., near Joliet Curie Ave., said Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils.

When police arrived at the scene, the Montreal fire department was already extinguishing the blaze. Preliminary information shows one or more suspects set fire to the truck and fled before police arrived.

At 3:30 a.m., police received another call about six burning vehicles in a business parking lot at Henri-Bourassa Blvd., near Rivière-des-Prairies Blvd., in the same district as the first arson.

The vehicles torched included four cars, a van and a cube truck.

In both incidents, Chèvrefils said incendiary materials were found on the scene. No other property damage was reported in either of the incidents and no one was injured.

So far, Chèvrefils said no arrests have been made.

Investigators from the Montreal arson unit are analyzing the scenes on Sunday and reviewing footage from nearby surveillance cameras. Both sites are protected for the purposes of the investigation as of 11 a.m. Sunday.

No information indicates the two events are linked, but police spokesperson Florence Stafford said police haven’t yet ruled out the possibility.
