Makeover: How to elevate your hair and makeup for a special event

My client, Erin, was attending a formal fundraiser gala and wanted to elevate her look for this special event.

Erin has very dense, straight, naturally auburn hair. Her colour had recently been enhanced with shades of blond and copper but her haircut was feeling a little heavy and weighed down. She wanted to wear her hair down and I knew that I could improve her style with a simple haircut and reshape. I maintained the length and used a circular cutting technique that eliminates density while adding texture, body and movement.

Before styling, I sprayed Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray throughout her hair for all-over body building. I changed her part from a side-part to middle-part to better compliment her beautiful facial features and then blow dried her hair with a round brush for volume. I sprayed her hair with Oribe Gold Lust Heat Protection Spray to protect her hair from heat damage and curled her hair using a two-inch barrel curling iron. I sprayed her root and mid-lengths with Oribe Dry Texture Spray for instant glamour and texture then brushed out her curls with a paddle brush.

To finish the look, I used Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray for a tousled and touchable bombshell style.

Makeup:

For Erin’s soft-glam look, I opted for a full coverage foundation to even out her complexion. I contoured her face with bronzer and used warm-brown shadows to define her eyes. I added wispy strip lash to the outer corners of her eyes, for a little extra volume, then finished her look with a peachy blush and nude lip.
