Warning: This story contains details of a violent crime.

The man accused of beating his elderly mother to death in Leamington, Ont., earlier this year has pleaded guilty.

Kevin Goodings, 61, stood in Superior Court in Windsor, Ont., on Thursday to admit guilt to second-degree murder for the killing of 83-year-old Anita Goodings.

The crime happened on March 11 on the patio of Anita Goodings' ground-floor apartment.

A surveillance video recording that was played in court showed Goodings' attack on his mother. It showed him pushing her to the ground, stomping on her head and kicking her motionless body.

The woman's body was left under a blanket.

Kevin Goodings fled the apartment with his jacket and two backpacks, the court heard.

He was later seen at the Via Rail station in Windsor and tried to take a taxi to Toronto.

He was eventually arrested on March 15 at the Downtown Mission shelter in Windsor.

Excerpts of the surveillance video were shown in court. Members of Anita Goodings' family were in attendance, and some excused themselves to avoid seeing the evidence.

A joint sentencing submission will be heard in Superior Court on Jan. 14.
