A man has been charged with promoting hate after allegedly handing out flyers promoting antisemitism in January, Toronto police say.
Police say the charges stem from an incident in the Bloor Street W. and Lansdowne Avenue on Jan. 2, when police received reports of someone giving out flyers promoting hate against members of the Jewish community.
The accused, a 62-year-old Toronto man, was charged on Tuesday with wilful promotion of hatred.

Police said in a news release that wilful promotion of hatred is considered a hate propoganda offence, for which the attorney general's consent is required to lay charges. Those charges often come at a later time, the release said.
The accused was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Toronto on Tuesday.
