A 39-year-old man faces several charges after allegedly ramming police vehicles and assaulting officers in the Yellowknife area.
Yellowknife RCMP say they received a call at around 1:30 a.m. on Friday in which a person was screaming for help. They also got a report of an assault at a home in Dettah, N.W.T., and that the assailant had a firearm.
When police arrived, they learned a second person had been assaulted and that the suspect had fled in a vehicle.

Police say that shortly after, they saw the vehicle and tried to stop it in a traffic stop. The suspect attempted to drive away and got stuck in a ditch. While trying to drive out of the ditch, the suspect rammed two police vehicles before coming to a stop.
RCMP say the suspect got out of the vehicle and got into an altercation with the officers. Police Tased him and took him into custody.
RCMP didn’t find a firearm.
The suspect was charged with a number of offenses, including dangerous operation of a vehicle, impaired operation of a vehicle, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and mischief over $5,000
Police say the suspect remains in custody.
