Two men are facing drug trafficking and firearms charges after police deployed a spike strip to stop a fleeing vehicle in east Alberta near the Saskatchewan border.
On Wednesday, at around 2:20 p.m., Elk Point RCMP officers pursuing a drug trafficking and weapons investigation attempted to stop a vehicle out of Onion Lake, Sask., in the area of Frog Lake, Alta., police said in a Friday news release.

Police searched the vehicle and seized a set of brass knuckles, ammunition, methamphetamine and drug trafficking paraphernalia.
During the arrest, police said members of the community informed officers that two firearms were thrown out of the vehicle. Police seized a shotgun and a rifle with tampered serial numbers and illegal modifications.
“We would like to start by thanking the members of the public who made sure that we were aware of the firearms that had been thrown out of the vehicle, thus ensuring the safety of the community,” said Const. Nicholas Couture, in a news release.
“We take the safety of our community very seriously and will keep working proactively, using information from the public, our partners and other RCMP detachments, be they in Alberta or otherwise, to find and arrest those responsible for causing harm to others.”
