Police have charged a northwest Edmonton teacher with multiple sexual offences allegedly involving a student.

The 32-year-old educator was arrested by officers from the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit and the Edmonton Police Service last Friday.

The Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) on Wednesday announced charges of child luring, making sexually explicit materials available to a child, and making, possessing, and transmitting child sexual abuse materials.

It came after the teacher had “allegedly been engaged in sexually explicit online conversations with a student,” the agency said in a news release on Wednesday. “It is believed that this relationship lasted for a period of two years.”

ICE opened an investigation into the teacher earlier this month.

In the news release, ALERT said the charges against the man related to offences allegedly committed against one of his students at Hilwie Hamdon School — a kindergarten to Grade 9 school.

Police said the charges are related to online offences, and it is currently unknown if any other students were potentially impacted.

“ICE is sharing this information given his position of trust and authority,” the agency said.

Dylan Rosychuk, 32, was released from custody on a number of court-imposed release conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 19.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
