A Florida college student is accused of ordering 1,500 rounds of ammunition to his dorm room.

Constantine Demetriades was arrested on Dec. 3 after authorities said a large shipment of ammo delivered to a dormitory at Rollins College in Winter Park, north of Orlando, led to the discovery of an AR-15 rifle, news outlet WKMG reported.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by WKMG, the package containing 1,500 rounds of 9-mm ammunition arrived at the dorm of the 21-year-old college senior, prompting school officials to look into it.

When Rollins College officials searched Demetriades’ room, they allegedly found an unloaded AR-15 underneath his bed along with six ammo magazines, FOX 35 Orlando reported.

Cops furthered the investigation and also found a number of knives, a tactical vest, security vest, ear protection, and a pistol storage case.

Rollins College notes on its website that any “substance or device identified as a weapon is not permitted.”

What the student told police

When questioned by police, Demetriades said he knew weapons weren’t allowed on campus, but wasn’t under the impression that it was against the law to own ammo on campus, FOX 35 Orlando reported.

The student told cops he ventured to New Jersey with the AR-15 for Thanksgiving and returned to campus on Dec. 2. He said that he had a valid conceal and carry permit in New Jersey but wasn’t aware the permit wasn’t valid in Florida.

Demetriades told authorities he typically stashes the weapon off school property at a friend’s house, adding he brought it to school one other time. He also told police that he didn’t have any bad intentions.

The criminal complaint noted the student said shooting was a hobby of his and he “used to work as an armed security” at nightclubs in Orlando, WFTV reported.

Demetriades was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property. He appeared Dec. 4 in court, where a judge ruled he was eligible for pre-trial release.
