A precautionary boil water advisory is in effect for some communities around Dartmouth.

This impacts people who live along Waverley Road, Spider Lake, Montague Road, Port Wallace, Montebello, Craigwood Estates and Avenue du Portage.

This advisory comes after emergency repairs to a water main on Waverley Road in Dartmouth on Saturday night.

Halifax Water said in their latest announcement issued early Sunday morning that residents who had no water after 1 p.m. on December 6 should boil their water before use.

If water is discoloured, they are recommending running it clear before use.

Halifax Water says customers in impacted areas can still use water but it should be boiled for at least one minute before drinking, cooking,  preparing infant formula, making ice cubes or juices, washing fruits or vegetables, or brushing teeth.

The measures are precautionary after Halifax Water consulted with the NSECC and the Medical Officer of Health. They will continue to monitor the situation.

The advisory is in effect until further notice.
