The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is issuing a warning that a recently released convicted sex offender will be living in Edmonton and police have “reasonable grounds to believe he will commit another sexual offence against someone while in the community.”
Larry Maxwell Stanford, 74, has been incarcerated “numerous times.”
“Given Stanford’s criminal history, including a sexual offence, an aircraft hijacking and an attempted murder, he has been incarcerated for considerable periods of time but is still believed to be a high risk to reoffend,” said a news release from EPS.

He was convicted of a violent sexual offence committed in Edmonton in 2017.
“The Edmonton Police Service is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform members of the community,” the release said.
Stanford is currently subject to a court order, with conditions and will be managed by the behavioural assessment unit of the EPS.
Among his court-ordered conditions, he may not associate with anyone known to have a criminal record for sexual offences except for participants in a program or individuals approved by his supervisor, and is on a curfew to be home between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. unless approved in writing by his supervisor.

He may not purchase, possess, or consume any alcoholic beverages or cannabis products, any controlled drugs or prescription drugs not prescribed to him, or any other intoxicating substances.
Anyone with any information about Stanford’s behavior or conduct while in the community can contact the EPS at 780-423-4567.
