A New Waterford, N.S., woman has been charged with fraud and theft after police say more than $30,000 went missing from a local hockey organization.
Cape Breton Regional Police said Thursday a 57-year-old woman has been charged after an investigation into the sale of even-split tickets, also known as 50/50 tickets, by the New Waterford Minor Hockey Association.
Police said an audit revealed inconsistencies between the association’s ticket collections and deposits.

As part of their investigation, police interviewed multiple people and reviewed the association’s ticket sales and financial records.
The accused, who was one of the association's volunteers, has been charged with theft over $5,000 and fraud over $5,000. She is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 15.
The offences are alleged to have occurred between September 2024 and February 2025.
The New Waterford Minor Hockey Association has not responded to a request for an interview from CBC News.
On the association’s Facebook page, it said it has implemented a “new level of security,” including updating its policies and procedures to ensure the integrity of their weekly draws.
