A Calgary man is facing several charges after allegedly stealing a car from a couple and their grandchild, according to the Calgary Police Service.
Skylar Beaverbones, 23, faces one count each of forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a vehicle, assault against a peace officer, failure to comply with a release order, disguise with intent, obstructing a peace officer and two counts of mischief, a police release on Wednesday stated.
“This was an incredibly dangerous situation and we’re relieved the family wasn’t hurt,” said Staff Sgt. Chiran Cardona in the release. “We also appreciate the assistance of the Calgary Fire Department in resolving the incident.”

The incident occurred on Sunday, Nov. 30, at approximately 5:30 p.m. A man was dropping his granddaughter off in the southeast community of Walden when a man in a ski mask jumped into the vehicle, according to the release.
The grandfather’s wife, who was in the backseat of the vehicle, jumped out as the man drove away. The grandfather was nearly hit by the vehicle.
About 15 minutes later, Calgary Fire Department members were sent to the scene of a vehicle that had crashed into a power pole near the intersection of Shawville Road and Shawville Boulevard S.E. When they arrived, the driver of the vehicle rammed into the fire truck several times. The driver of the fire truck then pinned the vehicle against the pole while police were called.
It was later determined that the offending vehicle was the same one that had been stolen in Walden.
Beaverbones refused to comply with officers upon arrival, according to police, but was eventually taken into custody.
