Toronto police have identified a man who was fatally stabbed at Jane subway station on Tuesday.

Matthew Rumble, 39, of Toronto, died in hospital after he was stabbed during an altercation, police said in a news release on Wednesday.

Rumble is the city's 43rd homicide victim of the year. Police did not release a photo of him.

Police said officers were called to the station shortly after 5:50 p.m. for reports of a stabbing.

According to police, there was an argument between the suspect and victim on a TTC bus that was arriving at the station. Both got off the bus in the bus bay area, then the argument turned into a physical altercation between the two.

"During the fight, the suspect stabbed the victim," police said in the release.

Toronto paramedics took the victim with life-threatening injuries to hospital, where he died.

Police said the suspect fled the area with a female, whom police describe as a person of interest. On Tuesday night, police said the the male and female were seen running away from the station westbound on Bloor Street after the stabbing.

The suspect is described as a Black male, 5 foot nine to 5 foot 11, with a thin build.

The female is described as white with blonde hair and a thin build.
