An ATV crash on Newfoundland's west coast on the weekend left a 63-year-old man dead, police said Monday.

Around 6 p.m. NT on Saturday, the Corner Brook RCMP detachment received a report from a motorist of a crash near Snooks Pond on Forestry Access Road in Benoit's Cove.

"An ATV had overturned and a man was located deceased in a ditch. A helmet was located nearby. It is believed that the crash may have occurred a number of hours earlier," said a statement from the RCMP.

Police said the ATV has been seized as part of the ongoing investigation and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is involved.
