Nova Scotia RCMP have arrested a teen and a young woman after an alleged car theft spree involving multiple vehicles.

On June 7, Annapolis District RCMP were informed that a 17-year-old was driving a GMC Sierra that had been reported stolen from New Brunswick several days earlier, according to a news release.

Officers found the truck leaving a residence on Hwy. 10 in New Germany, along with a silver car. Both vehicles fled at high speed when police tried to stop them, the RCMP release said.

Police used a spike belt on the highway to stop them, and the silver car was later found abandoned. Witnesses told police they saw a man and woman running from the vehicle.

The woman, a 21-year-old from Halifax, was arrested, but the other suspect was not found.

Police determined the silver car, a Volkswagen Jetta, had also been reported stolen from Chester.

The GMC Sierra was found abandoned shortly after, and police confirmed it was the stolen truck from New Brunswick.

More vehicles stolen

Later that day, RCMP got another report of a stolen vehicle — a Chevy Silverado from Middleton.

Police found it in Cookville and followed it to Hwy. 103. According to the release, the truck sped away when officers tried to stop it, but they didn't pursue it out of concern for public safety.

That truck was found shortly after and witnesses told police a lone driver had run away. Police tried to track the suspect with the aid of RCMP Police Dog Services, but the person continued to evade them.

Then, they received another report of a stolen vehicle — a Ford Econoline van with a suspect description that matched the driver of the Silverado.

Police found and followed the van to Hwy. 10, where they once again deployed a spike belt.

The suspect, a 17-year-old from Wilmot, ran away but surrendered to police once the K9 unit arrived.

He's facing multiple charges, including theft, flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He is scheduled to appear in Annapolis Royal provincial court on June 24.

The 21-year-old woman from Halifax was released on conditions and is facing charges of flight from police, possession of stolen property, and possession of a controlled substance.

She's scheduled to appear in court on August 12.

Police say as the investigation continues. They expect more charges and arrests.
