This is typically the time of year when the winter "blahs" hit in full force, and for those stuck in the miserable cloud-funk in Ontario, it may be feeling even extra gloomy right now. There's good reason for it, too.

The month of December featured 28 days of cloud and fog, followed by a comparable dreary January of being stuck in a cloudy 26 days.

The sun only showed itself for five days over the month of January, which will now make this upcoming weekend feel that much sweeter.

"Our dearly missed weather friend, high pressure, will march into southern Ontario by Friday," says Rachel Modestino, a meteorologist at The Weather Network. "Sinking air underneath it inhibits cloud development, clearing out the skies for both Saturday and Sunday. What a treat this will be!"

To put this forecast into perspective, it's been 10 weeks since there have been two sunny weekend days across the region. The last time sunshine splashed through a weekend forecast was back on November 18 and 19.

To make matters even rosier, mild temperatures will accompany the weekend sun, with daytime highs more typical of March than the start February.

"So, dig out those sunglasses and make plans to get outdoors to soak up what will be some desperately needed natural Vitamin D," Modestino says.

While the first half of February will feel very much like early spring, forecasters urge not to write off the winter season just yet. There's the potential for colder weather to return during mid-February, and through early March.
