As people recover from holiday meals and gatherings, and prepare for New Year’s Eve, there aren’t too many events in Waterloo region and area this weekend, but there are a few things to do.
This week’s list is going to include more than five things. There are, of course, outdoor and indoor rinks that are open for skating plus local trails like Huron Natural Area in Kitchener, some GRCA conservation areas, Schmidt Woods Trail in Wilmot Township, Starkey Hill near Guelph are geat for a winter walk.
K-W Titans home opener
Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Aud, Kitchener
The K-W Titans are back and will take on the Windsor Express in their home opener. Get there early to take part in activities courtside before the game gets underway, then stay after the game to meet the players and get photos and autographs.

The Titans are on the road Sunday, but back on home court on Tuesday against the Lake Erie Jackals. Tuesday is Retro Night, so people are encouraged to wear their vintage gear.
Kitchener Rangers vs. Erie Otters
Sunday 2 p.m.
The Aud, Kitchener
The Kitchener Rangers hit the ice to take on the Erie Otters in a Sunday afternoon game.
Note: The Guelph Storm do not have any weekend games.
Winter Crafternoons
Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Schneider Haus National Historic Site, Kitchener
This family-friendly event will include a winter-themed craft good for the whole family. The crafternoons are included in the price of admission to the museum.
Elora Gorge Kennel Club Dog Show
Saturday, Sunday and Monday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Bingemans, Kitchener
This dog show will focus on sporting breeds on the Saturday, working breeds on the Sunday and U.K. breeds on Monday.

Sunday is also ugly sweater day, so wear your favourite one while you watch the competitions.
The Almost Hip
Friday at 7 p.m.
Room 47, Waterloo
Dance and sing off any food comas at this concert with covers of the best hits from Canada’s beloved Tragically Hip. Tickets are required.
Hot Cocoa and Snowy Crafts
Saturday 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Guelph Public Library, main branch
This drop-in event includes using different materials and techniques to make a snow-inspired craft while sipping on some hot chocolate.
If you can’t make it Saturday, the library is also hosting Fun With Robotics Sunday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the main library.
