A 32-year-old woman is dead and two men suffered life-threatening injuries after an SUV plowed into the back of a parked car-hauling trailer Monday night in west Edmonton, say police.
Officers were called to the scene around 11:45 p.m. Monday after the driver of the 2018 Audi Q5 heading west on 118 Avenue between 178 Street and 184 Street lost control and nearly left the roadway before slamming into the back of the parked trailer, police said in a Tuesday morning release.
The woman, who was a rear passenger in the SUV, was pronounced dead on scene.

The 37-year-old driver and a 35-year-old front passenger were transported by emergency medical services (EMS) with serious, life-threatening injuries. Police on Tuesday morning said both men are listed in stable condition.
The driver of the trailer did not report any injuries, police said.
The major collision investigations section (MCIS) was on scene and investigators believe speed was a factor in the deadly crash.
“Sadly, speed has taken far too many lives on our streets, and we send our condolences to all of the friends and families who have lost loved ones this year,” said Sgt. Kamlesh Patel with MCIS. “As we approach 2026, the EPS would like to remind motorists to slow down and drive with care so we can all arrive home safely in the new year.”

In November, the Edmonton Police Commission heard the city had just marked its 30th traffic fatality of the year, with 26 fatal collisions through all of 2024, and 24 in 2023. Police said nearly half of this year’s collisions involved speed and the number of people who have been pulled over for speeding in excess of 50 km/h over the posted limit is up 19 per cent in 2025.
