Man charged in connection with extortion-related shooting in Abbotsford

A man has been charged in connection with a “reckless” extortion-related shooting at a business in Abbotsford on Wednesday.

Investigators with the Abbotsford Police Department’s extortion task force say 22-year-old Gursewak Singh has been charged with firing a gun, and knowing or being reckless in a public area.

Shortly before 11 a.m. on Dec. 17, there were reports of a shooting at a business in the 31000-block of King Road.

Officers confirmed the shooting and shared details with the gang crime unit.

A member of the Lower Mainland police dog service then alerted gang crime officers to a suspect vehicle described as travelling eastbound on Highway 1 near Whatcom Road.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the suspect vehicle, was arrested.

Singh remains in custody. His next bail hearing is Dec. 23. Police have released a photo of Singh to help with the investigation.
