Man shot by Calgary police at Dalhousie LRT station now facing charges

A 23-year-old man has been charged in relation to an incident at the Dalhousie LRT station earlier this week, which resulted in a Calgary police officer shooting him.

The charges consist of three counts of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.

At around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, bylaw officers called police for assistance with a man who was acting erratically at the northwest station.

Police officers located the man and an altercation ensued. One officer discharged their firearm, striking the man. No officers or bystanders were hurt.

The man was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition.

The station was closed for several hours on Tuesday while the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team, the province's police watchdog, investigated.

The officer-involved shooting is still under investigation.

The accused will appear in court on Friday.
