The Windsor Police Service says it's investigating a fatal Sunday afternoon collision involving a cyclist.

The service dispatched officers to the corner of Lauzon Road and Edgar Street around 4 p.m. after a report of a motor vehicle collision, according to a post by the police service on X, formerly known as Twitter.

They learned that a vehicle travelling northbound on Lauzon collided with a cyclist travelling westbound from Edgar to Lauzon.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene, police said.

The cyclist died in hospital.

The intersection was closed to traffic for several hours while officers conducted their investigation.

No charges had been laid as of Monday at noon, "pending a fulsome investigation," police said.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the collision or who has information about the incident to contact the Windsor Police Traffic Enforcement Unit at 519-945-9645.

They can also contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or submit information online at http://catchcrooks.com.

Affected people in need of support can call Victim Services Windsor Essex County at 519-723-2711 or the Victim Assistance Unit at Windsor Police at 519-255-6700, ext. 4879.
