15,000 endangered turtles just got freed into the Amazon

Throngs of onlookers travelled to the mouth of the Amazon River near Afuá, in the Brazilian state of Pará to witness the release of an endangered species of turtle endemic to the region. This is the 41st release since the Brazilian government's biodiversity conservation program began in 1981, bringing the total turtles released to 179,000 to date.
